Tonight we wanted to eat at a familiar place. We chose On the Border Mexican Grill and Cantina. I was slightly disappointed at the hostess because she took several minutes to even acknowledge us standing at the door entrance. I noticed she was setting up tables for a large group and I decided to stay calm. Finally, she came over greeted and seated us. Our waitress was a delight. She was very nice, energetic and friendly. We ordered margaritas of course and our meals. The service was quick, the food good and the atmosphere was relaxing. I ordered the mini street steak taco plate. The steak was tender with good flavor. My husband ordered three chicken tacos and he enjoyed the crunchy onion on the tacos. Both dinners came with refried beans and rice. From my seat I could watch them make the fresh tortillas. After a long day of traveling from Tennessee (6+ hours on the road) we were happy to be eating and drinking. Overall the food, chips and salsa were really good and the service was awesome.

What started out as a horrible experience ended up being great. Went to OTB for an early dinner/late lunch and was seated promptly. The restaurant was not busy at all. Sat for approximately 7 minutes without being spoken to by any staff until finally a server named Pilar came up, apologized, and said she just moved to this section and would be happy to take our drink and food order, if we were ready. Our original server came by with chips and salsa which she pretty much just threw on the table, obviously not happy about something. Her uphappiness was written all over her face. Pilar came back with our drinks and a complimentary queso for our troubles. The frozen watermelon margarita was FANTASTIC! The brisket tacos were delicious, and the meal was, overall, pleasant thanks to Pilar's attentiveness and efficiency. Thank you, Pilar, and OTB!

Update: Their catering department reached out to us quickly to make things right - great customer service! -----previous review They recently catered a corporate event with us and it was substandard. We felt the meat was not seasoned and poor quality. The food just did not taste good in general. The quantity of food was ok for our size group, but not what we expected when ordering. As far as the restaurant goes, for dining in for lunch my coworkers like to choose here so I have enjoyed a few lunches. I always get the chicken tacos and they're great! It's not really truly an authentic mexican food experience but whatever. I don't like to choose myself to come here for lunch because they forget my drinks and it takes a long time to get the check every single visit!

Server was pleasant, service was horrendous. We were placed in the patio, on the west side of the building, and they had no shades, this was about 5:30 in the evening. Food was okay but we were not given much of it. Had gone through two bowls of chips before we ever were asked what we wanted to drink. At the end of the meal, had to speak with the manager, who was very apologetic and took care of the bill for both parties. This was really the only highlight of this visit. I will NEVER return to this restaurant.

Pretty typical chain Mexican restaurant. My food was good, nothing special.

Ordered nachos minus the jalapeño's because I have my grandson with me. They arrived with the peppers. As I'm eating, I look over at the young ladies making tortillas out in the open. They both have long hair and the one with no gloves on is pushing her hair back behind her ears with the same hands that are touching the tortillas. Not sanitary at all.

Today's visit was dejavu because I had just had lunch barely more than 24 hours ago at On The Border in Independence, MO, and it had been great. This one is closest to my home, so I've been here before. But today left a lot to be desired. The food was okay. The service was decent, although a waiter needs to learn just because he brings a ticket doesn't mean I've finished dinner. But the most obnoxious problem was that the muzak was way too load for all the hard surfaces and ambient noise of conversations! At the other restaurant, the music was themed mostly Hispanic & Tejano. Today, I heard only one Latin song and all the rest was very loud, very tinny & obnoxious rock & heavy metal. Hard Rock Cafe? Fine. But this is OTB, and with hard surfaces/concrete floor, it's too much. Finally, the OTB prefers for the managing partner to visit tables to monitor quality. We only saw wait staff. I'll go to OTB in Missouri, thank you!

Not even worth writing a review.it sucked. Nothing close to Mexican food. You could call it texmex but even that is a stretch.

Totally worth the stop! The chips were fresh and the salsa was light and not overly spicy. The queso dip was free thanks to the offer on the bathroom wall, seriously. We ordered fajitas and the portions were average. The good came out sizzling and the tortillas were fresh and warm. My son ordered the two taco combo meal and said it was great! Nothing over the top bit definitely a great stop for Tex-Mex cuisine!

Unlike Robert, I thought it was better than "ho hum". It was a Friday night and they were busy, but Emily, the Manager, jumped right in and took our drink order. With all the specials on margaritas, I deferred to her judgment and she brought me a fabulous margarita. Both Emily and the person that brought out our order were very personable and had good senses of humor. The combination plate I had (beef crispy tacos, chile rellano and beef empanada) was wonderful. The taco was sizable and crispy, not served soggy on the bottom as I've had elsewhere. The rice was very good and blackbeans tasty. The chile rellano was outstanding! I definitely would come back again.

Not deserved of a single star, but I can't post this review without adding one. Terrible service. I waited 10 min for a beer and shot of tequila when there were only a few others in the bar. = bad management. Dirty menu and table. Flickering lightbulb overhead. When I got my tequila I drank half, only to realize the glass was filled with six, count em, 6, fruit flies. I walked out. Still want to puke.

ho hum... I didn't really want to go here, but my options were limited. The bartender was very nice, John. The food is just like any other in this chain. I would come back. The black beans were good and the salsa is homemade, which is tasty.... If you have been to one, then you pretty much know how this goes...

I had to come back and order another Carne Asada. Unfortunately, they're inconsistent here. The meat was overseasoned (too salty). My server either had a bad night or was inexperienced. My iced tea glass had only 1/4 of a cup left. My server had to ask if I needed anything instead of just bringing a pitcher of tea over and filling my glass. She didn't check on how my food was after she served it. To top it all off, when she brought my check and credit card back, she asked my not to take her pen! Needless to say, she did not get a tip!

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
